Which direction to take when it comes to remote database and mobile communication

To be honest this is probably more of a "where the heck do I start" type of question than a specific issue as I can't see the wood for the trees with so many small demos out there all doing something slightly different.

I seem to have so many options using a variety of methods of JSON, REST, Datasnap, FireDAC that I'm struggling to settle on "the right way to go"

What I would like to do (I think) is work with JSON and a REST server of some description with an Android mobile. I guess I am probably looking at creating an FMX application so I could compile it to either a desktop app or a mobile phone.

The problem is I have no one else around interested in doing this sort of stuff and no where else to turn for advice, so here I am :-)

I'd like to do something like Mobile JSON request data > REST server > SQL server table/query master/detail > return as JSON to Mobile and display master detail. The master record display which has an "Approve" button on the mobile which in turn just updates the record on the database via JSON call.

Eventually I want to convert the server app to sit on an IIS server as a dll and include active directory authentication from the mobile phone app with an HTTPS connection.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If there are sample Delphi apps provided already in the Delphi install which I can mix and match together to get the result, even better.

I am using Delphi 10 Seattle Enterprise
